HOMOGRAFÍA / HOMOGRAPHY

A festival of video works and performance, HOMOGRAFÍA/HOMOGRAPHY presents a programme of highly suggestive visual compositions, which explore identity and gender, questionning concepts such as masculinity and its representation, stereotypes and media manipulation, voyeurism/exhibitionism, and the act of ‘dressing the body in art.’
audience 2019

Panel

HOMOGRAFÍA / HOMOGRAPHY intends to develop a cartography of gender, diversity, and creation within minority groups, through a selection of experimental works. A programme of video and in-situ captures the eye of the beholder, and initiates discussion between audience, artists & academics.

The muestra was presented at ArtSpace México and CC Clavijero, Morelia (MX) in 2015 & 2016; it is now looking at presenting a third edition in Brussels (BE). It is curated by Edgar Ramírez & Chris Miller.

Video

With its roots in television, video as an art practice emerged in the U.S. and Europe in the early 1960s, and immediately influenced other major movements of the times such as Fluxus, performance, minimalist, and conceptual art. In HOMOGRAFÍA / HOMOGRAPHY, video is a testimony on living and creating from the margins and the point of view of dissident and queer artists in contemporary culture.

“The body as an alternative creation by the artist, the body as product and symbol. ”
Performance Sofia Moreno, Homografía / Homography #2, Morelia 2016
Performance

Conceived as an interdisciplinary group exhibition, HOMOGRAFÍA / HOMOGRAPHY proposes works exploring themes of gender, identity, and their relationship to the body. Reflecting on its emancipation as an ungovernable organism, HOMOGRAFÍA / HOMOGRAPHY explores the body as an alternative creation by the artist, the body as product and symbol.

In this context, through video, visual or cinematographic poetry, we look closer at various (and non-normative) representations of masculinities. Indeed, in many of these works, which can be described as queer, the body is an integral part of the work of art, aiming to reformulate traditional cultural values.
